The World's Greatest Verse

The world's greatest verse is John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His
only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life".
I. God himself is the Source of God's love. "God so loved the world".
The Bible says that "God Is Love" (I John 4:8 ESV). The Bible also points out: "Every good and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change." (James 1:17 ESV).

II. God's Love Is Sovereign... "God so loved"
Only through His loving way and the unlimited going through His Son to express His love for mankind can we know the extent of God's matchless love. At Christmas time we celebrate the coming of our Saviour as a tiny infant in a manger. So great is His love for us all. Let's not forget that Jesus said I am the Way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6).

III. God's Love Is Unlimited In Its Scope... "The World".
No one is excluded (II Corinthians 5:15) except those who refuse to come to God as a wretched sinner in great need of His salvation. If you come in simple faith and believe what John 3:l6 says you will not be turned away.

IV. The Sacrifice Of His great love... "that He gave His only begotten Son".
"Only begotten" has a special meaning here. It has the idea of "the only one of His kind". There is no one who could die for sinners and through His great love give the world the hope of eternal life. He has to be the Eternal One (John 1:1-5), without sin, in everthing He is perfect (the virgin birth Luke 2:36-38). Also, His death on the cross was the only sacrifice for sin that was acceptable to God the Father.

V. There Is No Salvation like Jesus' salvation. "Believe in Him...not perish"!
"Perish" here means to be lost forever. Without His salvation, a soul ends up in Hell forever. John 1: 11,12 "He came to His own and His own people did not receive Him.
But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God" John 1:11-12 ESV) Believe on the Lord Jesus to be your Saviour and with the hands of faith (faith is the hands of the heart) entrance to Heaven will be yours one day and you will be rescued (saved) forever.

VI. His Salvation is ours for the taking.
"...not perish, but have everlasting life". "receive .. believe". Allow Jesus to come into your life now by faith and you will have eternal life.
saved forever.
