Our Majestic God And Haiti

King David was on the verge of death and the anointing of his son Solomon as king in his place when he made this wonderful prayer: "Blessed are you, O LORD, the God of Israel our Father, forever and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honour come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name (I Chronicles 29: 10-13}.

This is an outstanding prayer to remember at the beginning of another year. With the Haitian earthquake, many have wondered about God allowing such a thing to happen. All we can do when such a catastrophe occurs, is to remember that God is love and that He holds Heaven and Earth in His power. He has a purpose in all that happens even though we cannot see what it is. Like Job, we must rest in His power, majesty and love.

With King David here in I Chronicles, we need to thank the Lord for protecting and keeping us from harm so often. We must leave the people of Haiti in the safekeeping hands of a gracious and loving God. Inasmuch as He works everything together for good to those who love Him (Romans 8: 28), we must remain confident that His sovereign will is being done in Haiti right now, particularly in the lives of His own people (there are many devout Christians there).

Let us pray that the God Who is described here in I Chronicles 29: 10-13 will be their Saviour and Lord and that the Lord Jesus, the God of the Bible, will comfort and help them in this time of testing. Our prayers and contributions are most especially needed at this time. The Lord is working to glorify Himself through this tragedy. Let's watch and see how He will be glorified in this and accomplish His perfect will, for surely God is present in Haiti. He has not abandoned the victims of this terrible calamity as we observe in the outpouring of sympathy through Christian missionaries, Haitian Christians and Christian aid along with international help from around the world. It is God Who motivates the nations of the world to send aid and help in such circumstances, for He is Lord of the nations. He rules over all!

Let's not forget that His servants helping there are the hands of Christ reaching out to demonstrate to the Haitian people that God is love. May His will be done as His majesty and love are revealed in Haiti.
